Warming Up Your Voice

March 17, 2017

Warming up your voice is essential before you begin singing as it enhances your performance and looks after your voice.

First of all it is best to make sure you are feeling relaxed so I normally do a few shoulder rolls and some deep singing breaths to relax. I tend to time my singing breaths to notes that I will be holding throughout my setlist.

To begin my vocal warm up I normally start with some simple la,la,la,la's! I begin lower down in my range and work my way up the scale, once I am getting higher in the scale I will change it to ah,ah,ah,ah's! once I have completed this exercise I then move back down the scale starting from high to low.

To optimise my pronunciation of words I like to sing along to a vocal warm up tongue twister which is the tip of the tongue, the lips, the teeth, unique New York. When you fist begin to sing along to this warm up it can be quite difficult! However it is great to help with the pronunciation of words you will be singing to make every note sound clear and crisp!
